DESCRIPTION:The Marcus Shelby Orchestra will perform the magical “Harlem Nutcracker Suite” by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn\, which is a masterpiece musical re-arrangement and orchestration of the well-known “Nutcracker” by classical composer Peter Tchaikovsky. Marcus Shelby and his orchestra performed the “Harlem Nutcracker Suite” for the first time\, last year in Healdsburg and for the past decade at SFJAZZ. The music is wonderful and exciting for audiences of all ages\, who will recognize many of the enduring themes from the original “Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky\, using the blues and swing as the vehicle for the music. There are nine sections that explore the range and tonal diversity of the big band orchestra. Although specifically written for the holiday season\, the music has the energy\, power\, and joyfulness that could allow the suite to be played anytime of the year. \nThe second half of this special holiday concert features celebrated Bay Area vocalist Tiffany Austin with the Marcus Shelby Orchestra\, performing a program of Christmas songs\, spirituals\, and various traditional songs re-arranged from around the world. This portion of the concert includes poetry\, a slide show\, and other holiday surprises. \nOur annual Healdsburg Jazz Holiday Concert also includes a toy drive\, so bring a small gift\, or book\, or toy that we will deliver to our local partners. \nSaturday\, December 20th\, at 7PM.\nAdmission (including fees): $29 to $104.

DESCRIPTION:A fun community bike ride through the heart of Santa Rosa. \nCome join us this Tuesday!\nWe roll through the JC and McDonald Ave neighborhood\, stop in Courthouse Square\, then on to the taco trucks at Mitote Food Park in Roseland for dinner!\nWe depart Mitote at 8:15pm\, ride back through Courthouse Square\, then on to Yogurt Farms for dessert.\nThis ride is 8 miles round trip and rides all year long.\nRides canceled for rain and holidays.\nAll riders welcome. Bring the whole family!\nMeet at SRJC parking lot at 550 Silva Ave. We are renting the use of this parking lot every Tuesday from 5:30pm to 9:30 pm. Taco Tuesday riders can park in the lot during that time frame for free.\nPlease park cars along the back wall on the east side. And stage in the row on the northern side of the lot (closest to Silva Ave). \nMeet at 5:30pm; pedals up at 6pm.\n
