During this 2-mile hike with 400-ft elevation gain\, you will learn about Sugarloaf Park\, its plants\, animals\, and history. \nThe hike begins from the Visitor Center and heads down to the waterfall on the Pony Gate-Canyon loop\, or along the Creekside Nature Trail\, but the route is bound to change depending on logistics and the participants’ physical ability. SUMMARY:Guided Bird and Nature Walk at Ellis Creek
DESCRIPTION:Get out and enjoy our beautiful wetlands! Our Saturday Bird and Nature walks\, led by PWA Docents\, occur monthly from October to June from 9 am to 11 am. \nDuring the winter months\, after the rains have returned\, at least 20 species of birds are common in the Central Pond in Shollenberger Park. Egrets\, herons\, shorebirds\, and raptors are all present. You may even see a bald eagle! \nEllis Creek has water most of the year so your chances are good there if the rain has been infrequent in Shollenberger. In the Spring\, starting around mid-April watch Canada Goose and duck hatchlings swimming with their parents. A treat for the whole family! \nBoth walks are about 1 mile but can be longer on request. You can continue the full loop trail(s) to extend your walk several miles after the tour. \nBring binoculars\, mask\, water\, hat\, sunscreen\, and appropriate layered clothing for changing weather since start time can be foggy and cold but end up warming up quickly. \nBring the Petaluma Wetlands Field Guide written by PWA members Marian Parker and John Shribbs if you have it. If not\, click here to order one. \nMeet at main entrance near parking lot. In the event of rain\, nearby fires\, or dangerous air quality\, scheduled walks will be cancelled. \nPetaluma Wetlands Alliance\, is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to Stewardship and Education of our Public Wetlands. \nEvery 4th Saturday Ellis Creek.\nEvery 2nd Saturday at Schollenberger Park.\nOctober through June.

DESCRIPTION:Winter in Sugarloaf offers many different colors\, shapes\, textures\, and lighting: great for practicing nature photography. \nCalifornia Naturalist John Lynch will lead this 3.5 mile\, 3.5-hour hike from the Creekside Nature Trail to Hillside Trail and back through the meadow using our cameras as tools to engage in the aesthetic appreciation of nature while also documenting flora and fauna through the iNaturalist app. If you haven’t used iNaturalist\, or haven’t made an observation for a while\, this is your chance; just make sure to load the app on your phone before you leave home and have your battery fully charged. \nMeet at the main parking lot. Tickets are $10 for general audiences\, $5 for students\, youth (12-17 years old; children under 18 years olf must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)\, Sugarloaf members\, Sugarloaf volunteers\, and free for children under 12. Wear layers\, appropriate footwear for slippery/muddy trails\, bring at least a quart of water\, sun protection\, and a fully-charged cell phone or camera. Heavy rain cancels; parking fees apply.

DESCRIPTION:A fun community bike ride through the heart of Santa Rosa. \nCome join us this Tuesday!\nWe roll through the JC and McDonald Ave neighborhood\, stop in Courthouse Square\, then on to the taco trucks at Mitote Food Park in Roseland for dinner!\nWe depart Mitote at 8:15pm\, ride back through Courthouse Square\, then on to Yogurt Farms for dessert.\nThis ride is 8 miles round trip and rides all year long.\nRides canceled for rain and holidays.\nAll riders welcome. Bring the whole family!\nMeet at SRJC parking lot at 550 Silva Ave. We are renting the use of this parking lot every Tuesday from 5:30pm to 9:30 pm. Taco Tuesday riders can park in the lot during that time frame for free.\nPlease park cars along the back wall on the east side. Performing at over 200 colleges and universities is no small feat\, and it speaks volumes about his ability to connect with younger audiences. His dedication to entertaining U.S. military personnel and cruise line passengers further highlights his commitment to bringing joy to diverse groups of people. \nAbout CJ Koepp: Wisconsin-raised\, Oakland-based comedian\, writer\, artist\, and climate activist who specializes in “dark woke.” She took this year’s 49th San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition by storm\, placing second in a close finish. We’ll have two different routes to choose from: a Naturalist-guided\, 2-mile family hike\, or a 5.25 to 6.5-mile trek to Bald Mountain\, which includes a climb of 1\,500 feet and features fantastic 360-degree views of Sonoma Valley\, Napa Valley\, and San Francisco. The final routes will be determined the day-of by trail conditions. \nThe Bald Mountain hike begins promptly at 9:00 am from the White Barn\, whereas the Family Hike begins at 10:00 am outside the Visitor Center. Wear appropriate footwear for muddy or slippery trails and warm layers (it could be cold or windy up here!). Bring water\, snacks\, sun protection\, and if heading to the summit\, pack a lunch. Bring a reusable drink container for your little one to enjoy free hot cocoa post-hike\, if desired. Free event; RSVP required. Be prepared for inclement weather but heavy rains cancel. Parking fees apply.

DESCRIPTION:Jack London State Historic Park will kick off the new year with their 13th Annual First Day Hike and a “Gentler Version” of the First Day Hike\, both on January 1\, 2026. \nThe traditional trek can be either a personal challenge to make it to the park summit (and a great photo op) or the first step in a commitment to a healthier new year. \nThe regular First Day hike to the top of Sonoma Mountain begins at 10 a.m. and will conclude at around 3 p.m. The roundtrip route is eight miles long and moderately strenuous. \nReservations are required and can be made at https://jacklondonpark.com/events/first-day-hike-2026/. \nA “Gentler Version” of the popular First Day Hike is also offered for those who prefer a shorter\, less strenuous hike with plenty of opportunities to appreciate Mother Nature’s grandeur along the way. \nThe 3.5-mile hike travels through the redwoods with mixed evergreens en route to the magnificent Ancient Redwood\, with moderate elevation gain and some uneven\, rocky areas. \nThe “Gentler Version” begins at 11 a.m. and ends at approximately 1:30 p.m. \nReservations are required and can be made at https://jacklondonpark.com/events/gentle-first-day-hike-2026/. \nTickets to either hike are $15 per person\, in addition to $10 per car entry fee (up to nine passengers). \nBoth treks are among many First Day Hikes held throughout the country\, supported by America’s State Parks\, and at parks statewide with California State Parks.
